Enjoy The Moments

Dream with me.

Sunrise…favorite journal & Bible…cute mug filled with coffee…sitting on the couch snuggled in the softest blanket ever…the feeling of calm in the midst of the quiet.

It’s every mom’s fairytale. Right?

And then it happens.

The hysterical screaming, the running down the stairs, the tears. “MOM!!!”

Reality!

Those moments happen so many times a day that I begin to wonder, “What have I done wrong?! Why can’t they get along? Haven’t we discussed at least 100 times how it’s more effective when we use our nice words rather than crying uncontrollably?”

I am sure you have been there.

Being a mom is hard.

Our days are filled with endless interruptions. There is no denying that. There are some days when we just want to take a sick day and check out for a few hours. However, in these moments, I challenge you to stop and realize the need for a perspective adjustment…

Sometimes I get irritated. We all do.

Like when my husband and I sit around the dinner table trying to discuss the events of our day while the kids start yelling silly jokes. We stop and listen, attempt to continue with our conversation, they begin laughing and giggling uncontrollably. Why can’t we just have one short conversation? I just need 5 minutes!

But then I glanced around the table and I quickly realize the value of the moments I am experiencing with my family—despite the weird and inappropriate sounds coming from their little bodies!

These “irritating” interruptions are actually precious moments. This season won’t last forever. Someday I’ll look back as my husband and I sit quietly at the table talking about our day, without interruptions.

The fact that God would allow us to be the mother of our precious babies – what an honor, a privilege, a blessing.

JJ Heller states it so sweetly “I Get to be the One“. The craziness means they are talking with you. Instead of expecting perfection, recognize they are kids. And although manners matter, sometimes it’s alright to roll with the punches and learn to appreciate the interruptions.
