What is the one thing that you secretly day dream about as you’re sitting in the school pick up line waiting for school to let out? What is the dream that you journaled about years ago, but never took any action on? What is the one thing you dreamed of as a young child, when the world seemed simple and you felt like you could do and be anything you wanted?
What do you dream of?
DREAMS … the only kind of dreams I have had in the last 10 1/2 years are those in the middle of the night as my head hits the pillow and in t-minus 30 seconds I’m in a coma until I am awakened by a sweet face asking me when I’m going to get out of bed.
Several months ago, my husband asked me what my dreams were. As I sat there, seeming deep in thought, I had nothing. As I imagined the blank page in my mind, I realized the only things I was “jotting down” were related to being a mom with a busy schedule and wearing many hats. My dreams seemed to be about helping others achieve their goals, having happy and healthy kids, and about creating a home of peace and love, a restful place for my husband to come home to.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that. I believe my calling and purpose includes the many hats I wear as a mom, wife, friend, and employee. I take great pride and often dream of how I can do better in all of these roles.
But, as a mom with a busy schedule, wearing many hats, these thoughts came to mind as I pondered that simple, yet deep question: What are my dreams?
– What if God built you to do all of that … and more?!?
– What if God wants to stretch you outside of what you think your current season is?
– What if God is teaching you to give up control?
– What if God has a plan that is bigger than you could even imagine, but you have to take the first step?
A few weeks ago, I came across a fun, easy to read book by Annie Downs, “Let’s All Be Brave.” Annie gives a great challenge :: “Do the thing in your heart that scares you to death.”
Take one small step towards your dream that you would never have dreamed of doing last week. Be BRAVE!
“To be brave and take action.”
What will you dream of this week and what’s one thing you’ll do that might force you to be brave?
