Seeking First The Kingdom – Week 14 Devotional
Seeking First The Kingdom – Week 14
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Think about a time when something was going on, whether it was stress, you were upset about something, someone made you mad, or maybe your feelings were hurt. Who did you go to first? It might have been a parent, grandparent, friend, teacher, mentor, etc. The first people I talk to when anything happens are my sisters.
Community is important, and I believe God places specific people in our lives for us to go to and trust. But did you know God should also be the first person we go to? When we talk to God about these things and seek His wisdom first, He will give us the guidance and comfort we need. I also believe that when we go to Him first, He will sometimes place specific people in our lives to share His wisdom and love with us. It is so easy to seek the world, which can look like doing and handling situations a certain way because that’s how the world (aka our friends, TV, books, and social media) handles them. But we are supposed to seek God and His Kingdom alone.
Then everything we need will be added. Seeking God and His ways produces lasting impact and fruit.
Two things I mainly took away and will be trying to apply in my life are, first, going to God first. No matter the problem, I want to sit with God about it before I make any rash decisions. Second, I want to be the friend that someone goes to while also teaching them to seek first the Kingdom. This can look like praying with them and encouraging them to talk to God about their situation. I believe that if we do these things, we will strengthen the Kingdom of God and grow in our faith.
