Loving like the Good Samaritan – Week 3

Did you know that as Christians we are called to love all our neighbors? Yes all, even the people who annoy us or have hurt us.

In Luke 10:30 Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. In this story a Samaritan stops to help a Jewish man who is hurt and left on the side of the road. This is a big deal because at that time Samaritans and Jews did not like each other at all.

Before the Samaritan came, a priest and a temple assistant walked right past the man and didn’t help him. So what does this story teach us? It shows us that it’s just as important to love people who are hard to love as it is to love the people who are easy to love. Who do you want to be in this story? I know I don’t want to be like the first two people who walked away.

As Christians we are called to be different, this looks like loving like Jesus so that others can see God through us. The coolest part is that this story is straight from Jesus, this is what He says love should look like. This isn’t always easy, but when we try to see people the way Jesus sees them it can become a little easier.

We don’t have to like everyone, but we are called to love everyone. That might look like being kind to someone who left you out before, helping someone who isn’t your friend, or choosing not to be mean when you’re upset.
