Description
Our September/October issue of FOR GIRLS LIKE YOU is a celebration of writers, writing, and girls who write! The finale to our first-ever FOR GIRLS LIKE YOU Writing Competition, this issue features our grand-prize winner on the cover and the winning writing of our TOP 20 entries!
Our cover girl, 8-year-old Greta, won the grand prize with the sweet story of her pet caterpillar, The Adventures of Harriet the Great. And in her story, you’ll also read about Greta’s many adventures beyond writing!
She’s a talented pianist and actor in her local theater and has performed the national anthem (along with her sister) at the ballpark. She speaks fluent French and plays ice hockey, loves to bake, and is super active at her church. We can’t believe she found the time to enter our competition!

Inside, you’ll also read the TOP 20 winning entries and meet their writers in all four categories of our competition—poetry, essay, short story and devotional.
Since our theme this issue was WRITING, our challenge to readers was to create a monostich, a poem of just one line, for our One-Line Wonders page. These short and sweet words are short and sweet masterpieces!
Keeping with our theme, you’ll also find lots of advice and creative ideas about how to start (or keep) your writing life going from True Girl, Go Girl, and Courageous Girls—and a fun communication-through-writing experiment in STEM Girls!
In When I Was a Girl Like You, you’ll meet Janel Rodriguez Ferrer, the writer who brought us the first three books in the Daniels Sisters (the Pitts sisters fictionalized) series—and now our newest release, A Daniels Sisters Mystery—TREASURE HUNTERS!
WRITE THIS WAY…
We hope you’ll dive into this issue to read some very impressive writing and get inspired to put your own pen to paper! We can hardly wait to read what you write!
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you … write them on the tablet of your heart.”
