Hi! I am so glad you are here. I am the proud wife of Jonathan and mom of FOUR little Girls! I am also the editor and founder of For Girls Like You Magazine, a ministry to girls (age 6-11) and their parents, that includes a quarterly print magazine, journal, and other print and web resources. You can also find me on ibelieve.com as a frequent blogger and as a contributor for Lifeway’s HomeLife Magazine!
I have a passion and drive to introduce young girls to Christian values in a way that they are able to palate and digest, so they can walk passionately and boldly in who God has created them to be. I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and now reside in Dallas, Texas. Follow me on Twitter (@forgirlslikeyou) and on Facebook for encouragement and fun as we strive to raise a generation of God’s girls!
A Little More
…you probably need to know that I am not one of those extremely happy, incredibly spiritual, homeschooling super moms (although I wish I was). I, like many, am just a grown up little girl who dreamt of one day becoming a wife and of course a mommy.
During the beginning of my journey into motherhood, I looked at my situation and all I could see was dirty diapers, growing piles of laundry and chicken fingers. I was living a life that I had only wanted in theory. The details of my reality did not match my dream, and certainly did not resemble a “gift.”
I cannot recall an exact moment, but thankfully something changed! Not my situation but my perspective. With each new baby girl, the piles of laundry only grew larger, the dirty diapers got messier and the chicken fingers, well they made their way onto the table more frequently. However, at the same time my smile was growing bigger and laughter began to make itself at home!
As we spend some time together, I challenge you to join me in adjusting our perspectives. Let’s begin reaping the benefits of all God created our journey to be!
The Full Story
I was raised by my mother and grandmother in the inner of city Baltimore, Maryland. As I child I saw firsthand the affect that poverty and fatherless-ness can have on an individual, specifically a little girl. Although my surroundings weren’t perfect (and neither was my behavior). I can attribute my accomplishments to the grace of God, the love of a mother, grandmother, and close family who all served the Lord. Sacrificing greatly, they were able to send me to an elite, private all-girls-school for the majority of my schooling through high school graduation.
Upon high school graduation I continued my education, studying Corporate Communications at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. With an undergraduate degree in hand, I began my career in the technical writing field as a grant writer for such organizations as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Philabundance, and Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. With a growing family, I made the decision to come home to raise my girls, and it was in this place that I finally gave God the freedom to be Lord of my life in action, not just in theory. I began blogging and experimenting with other creative writing pieces for a few years, finding my passion in being a wife, raising my family and ultimately leading to the founding of For Girls Like You Magazine.
I can honestly say, I am forever sold out and dedicated to seeking and following the call of Christ on my life.
I am excited and available to share my heart and ministry with you. If you are a part of or know of a ministry for girls/moms that would be interested in hearing my heart or learning more about For Girls Like You, please contact us!
